Truthers and Deniers, Oh My!

Despite, or perhaps even because of their cerebral pretentions, high IQ people are uniquely susceptible to the slavery of hive-mindedness. Among their own kind, they are able to find the very niche that reinforces their ardent wish to maintain their sense of intellectual superiority.  If the smart set tends to believe a particular set of causes, then their shared reverence for these causes becomes for them a signifier of their identity as a collective of “smart” people; thus, intelligent people who take pride in their intelligence are led, quite stupidly, to associate their set of pet causes with smartness
